TIGER GROUPER

Bayu Aquaculture Sdn Bhd made a breakthrough on 18th November 2018 when eggs
from TGGG were successfully collected and fertilised with sperm from Giant grouper to
successfully produce the backcross of the Hybrid grouper TGGG with the Giant grouper.

This backcross which we now call it as the Echo Grouper, attained 12cm in total length
in just 150 days on 16th April 2019. In this early stage, Echo Grouper has exhibited
characteristics and behaviour very much similar to that of the Giant grouper. There
is much optimism that this backcross would eventually be an ideal candidate for mass
culture to lead the productionof aquaculture in the country. The optimism rests on the
fact that this backcross Echo Grouper is similar to Giant grouper which is fast growing
and has good organoleptic properties. A new backcross would likely make
Echo Grouper more resistant to common diseases.
